Mexico part I

ola chicas y chicos

que tal? vivir en mexico esta muy muy bien !

so many things to do, so many things to see, that i did not have time to write sooner - which is a good thing for me of course

Again the same story as in november. I was still relatively calm on the plane till my roumanian neighbour thought it was absolutely necessary to point out the risks for me for 4 hours, pfff the last 3 hours I pretended to sleep, and it worked (of course he booked a full in hotel in cancun for 10 days and was not planning to come out of there...)

And then it starts, leaving the airport building, on your own, not really an idea of what will come next, trying to avoid the expense and touristic airport buses (as by now an experienced backpakker, we do not like these touristic things :-) ) and looking for the bloody normal bus, which they hide very well of course.  But nothing is too difficult to find and I succeeded, Mexico - Ana 0-1 !!  I was waiting for the bus and I met 2 dutch guys with who I travelled for some days, and do not ask me how it always happens , but as I promised to all you worried people, everything always fall into place!

First some background information on Mexico, the Mayas have been quite busy here some years ago, so the area is full with ancient Maya sites.  The area is also full with cave where you can go swinning and are called cenote or the english translations we already found, nature well or sink hole (they are much nices than the last name would indicate).

On saturday we leave to touristic cancun behind and try to go to Tulum, a beautiful place at the caribien sea. I say try because we maneged to miss the bus, it gave the mexican people a good laugh.  In tulum we stayed at cabanas (huts) on the beach, and what a beach, white sand, clear blue water, there are definitely worse places to start a trip and destress from our hectic life.

We visited there the maya ruines, just located next to the sea and beach, really a room with a view back then.  Also the first cenote, waaw how beautiful and a nice change from the salty sea water. I went snorkling and it was amasingly beautiful (as more things out here you will discover)...

Monday off to Valladolid, a very small visit, only intended to stay for 2 nights, but it is such a nice city, i am still here (leaving tomorrow although). Sleeping in the hostel here, my first dorm ever (sleeping room) and the boys dorm even more, but it is very nice and a very good way to meet people.  The hostel is really amasingly nice and to the mexican tradition a lot of different colours, with a beautiful garden with hammocks, you can understand i end up there a lot at the end of the day.  People have been coming and going, but all so nice people, evenings are filled with eating and drinking with more or less every day 4 - 6 people.  I have had a good time out here, some people not to see again, other i will probably meet along the way as everybody seems to follow the same direction.

In Valladolid I visited 2 more maya sites, yes when i say that they were busy, i mean really busy and 2 more cenotes today (however not soo nice as the other one).

Note on the alcohol supply here, did not yet try the tequila, there is time left, but the mexicans have really good beer, still looking for one that is not good !!  And the weather is hot hot hot here, only one big shower up so far, the rainy season seems to still be far away ...

Tomorrow I will leave to Campeche, supposed to be a very nice colonial city which is near the beach.

I am still enjoying my travelling alone, have not been bored one single minute (actually i have been trying to sent a mail since 2 days, but every time i come back from a day trip, there is somebody new in the dorm or the garden and I end up talking with them). The advantage however is that i can do whatever i want, mostly there is somebody else that wants to visit what i want to visit, but there is an absolute freedom, and that feeling is the best.  The safety in mexico, well did not have any problems, or feeling of danger at all.

lots of love and greetings to everybody, after campecheit is probably palenque and san cristobal de las cases, i will keep you informed !!!

ana

(thanks roberto for the name, very easy to be called ana in mexico)
